Future Leaders Elementary School is a small, nurturing professional learning community that offers a high quality, standards based curriculum.  We are focused on providing our students an environment that fosters their unlimited potential while developing each learner’s personal leadership skills. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  Roles in small schools are varied and complex and serious consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate through their resume and cover letter experience and/or willingness to become involved in these essential aspects:

·    Knowledge of  K-5 curriculum as it pertains to NYS performance standards
  ·    Ability to work within a non-traditional school schedule and organization structure that meets the needs of English Language learners and students requiring special education services
  ·    Develop rigorous lesson plans that address individual student needs and promote higher-order thinking skills
  ·    Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students
  ·    Regularly implement a variety of on-going formal and informal assessments that evaluate students’ progress toward content and skill standards
  ·    Integrate cooperative group work, project-based learning and technology into the curriculum
  ·    Knowledge of current, research-based educational best practices, including all standards-based curricular practices and skills that focus on closing the achievement gap
  ·    Practicing an open-door policy and developing best practice pedagogy to facilitate professional growth and collaboration
  ·    A commitment and dedication to helping children grow and learn in a demanding educational setting
  ·    Demonstrate professionalism and leadership qualities
  ·    Communicate and collaborate in a positive, productive, and professional manner with DOE and Future Leader Elementary School colleagues, students, families, campus and community partners to ensure the success and satisfaction of every student and the promotion of Future Leaders Elementary School mission and core values.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
    ·    In depth experience in utilizing Balanced Literacy and Mathematics
  ·    Demonstrated success monitoring and analyzing data to drive instruction and increase student achievement
  ·    Experience in utilizing the “Workshop Model” for instruction
·    Experience in differentiating instruction for all students, including special education and English Language Learners
  ·    Demonstrated success developing and using project based learning units, utilizing planning backwards model
  ·    Demonstrated success integrating technology in the classroom
  ·    Experience with arts integration and working knowledge of The Blueprints for the Arts
  ·    Working knowledge of portfolios as an authentic assessment
  ·    Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate individual, small group, and whole-class instruction
·    Knowledge and/or interest in participating in a School Wide Enrichment Program

In addition to interview, teacher candidates must present a teaching portfolio, which may include, a resume, evidence of philosophy of education, evidence of curriculum planning such as course outline and lesson plans, and any teaching artifacts collected throughout the teaching career.  Teaching artifacts may include student work, images of student work and presentations, and curriculum development examples.  Applicants must provide three references.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  Because roles in small schools are varied and complex serious consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate in their resume and cover letter experience and/or willingness to become involved in these essential aspects:

·    Practice counseling to facilitate professional growth and collaboration
  ·    Communicate and collaborate in a positive, productive, and professional manner with DOE and Future Leader Elementary School colleagues, students, families, campus and community partners to ensure the success and satisfaction of every student and the promotion of Future Leaders Elementary School mission and core values.
  ·    Ability to work within a non-traditional school schedule and organization structure that meets the needs of English Language learners and students requiring special education services
  ·    Participating in regular faculty development, reflective practice, professional organizations, peer coaching and school based study groups (model to be determined at school level)
  ·    Counseling students, individually and in groups, regarding academic readiness, discipline, social and emotional development, substance abuse, conflict mediation, graduation requirements, college admission, career planning etc and making appropriate referrals
  ·    Willingness to maintain regular and open communication with parents
  ·    Organize orientations (enrollment fair, career fairs, middle school visits), workshops (PTA, Community, Targeted populations) and other  community events

SELECTION CRITERIA:
  ·    Evidence of successful counseling strategies with regard to academic readiness, discipline, social and emotional development, substance abuse, conflict mediation, graduation requirements, college admission, career planning etc
  ·    Demonstrated success in collaborating on grade level teams
  ·    Demonstrated success in collaborating with classroom teachers and school leaders to meet needs of individual students
  ·    Demonstrated success in maintaining regular and open communication with families
  ·    Demonstrated success in leading workshops and discussions with / for families
  ·    Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to make referrals for students in need of additional services or alternative placements
  ·    Excellent written and oral communication skills
  ·    Evidence of successful counseling strategies with regard to academic readiness, discipline, social and emotional development, substance abuse, conflict resolution, and articulation
  ·    Demonstrated professionalism and leadership qualities
  ·    A commitment to our mission and dedication to helping children grow and learn in a demanding setting

In addition to interview, guidance counselor candidates must present a resume.  Applicants should also provide written references. One might include a peer with whom the applicant has collaborated.  Others might include faculty development or professional organization representative or a student.
